Setting Up and Using Your AdTrackers

This article covers a very powerful tool that should be used by every single marketer on the planet but is often overlooked.

The TrafficWave.net AdTracker

If you are like most marketers, you are running a lot of ads in various spots throughout the Internet. You may be running several classified ads, using Pay Per Click (PPC Ads), banner ads, Ezine Ads, participating in discussion forums, and more.

With all those ads, there is a good chance that you are seeing at least some activity. With all those ads out there, something should be happening, right? And sure enough … you start getting visitors to your web site or capture page. If you have a compelling offer and you are targeting the right market, you are seeing subscribers ¬†being added to your AutoResponder.

That’s great news, right!

But where are these visitors coming from?
Which of those ads is producing results?

If you’re like most marketers, you have no idea. You’re just happy to see some sort of activity. But you need to be tracking where your results are coming form!

Why Is Tracking Your Ads Important?

At some point, you are going to be renewing those ads. Even if the ads are free, there is a cost involved to you and that cost is your time.

One of your goals is to be sure you are spending your most valuable resources (your time and your money) in ways that produce results.

If you run 5 different classified ads and only one of them is producing results, you won’t want to spend time or money renewing the other ads. And if you aren’t tracking, you won’t know the other 4 are a waste of your resources.

So how do you set up and use AdTrackers? Let’s start by creating an AdTrack URL that we will use to track the number of times someone clicks the link in our first AutoResponder message.

  1. Place your mouse over “AdTracker” in the grey toolbar and then click on “AdTracker Campaigns”.
  2. Click “Create New AdTrack URL”.¬†
  3. In the “Target URL” field, type in the URL (web site address) that visitors should be taken to when they click the link:
  4. In the “Nickname” field, type in a nickname to help you easily identify this AdTracker later:Once you start getting a lot of AdTrackers, you can create groups to help organize your growing list. This can be done at any time. For now, we will skip this option.

If you are running a paid ad with this AdTracker, you can enter the price you paid for the ad in the “Advertising Cost” field. For now, leave this blank as we are using this first AdTracker URL for your first AutoResponder message.

  5. Click “Submit My AdTrack URL”.
  6. The next screen gives you a chance to verify your URL. Just click the link that appears in the orange box. Your web site should open in a new window. If it is NOT correct, make the changes in the form at the bottom of the screen. If it is correct, click the button labeled “My Target URL is Correct – Create My AdTracker”. Close the notification window that pops up.
  7. Your new AdTracker URL should appear in the next screen and look something like this:

“Message1″ is the nickname for this AdTracker URL.
The system currently shows that the AdTracker has receive zero hits (clicks).
The actual AdTracker URL appears in black:

Any time someone clicks on this URL, they will be taken to your Target URL.

NOTE: In order for this AdTracker URL to work, you must use the AdTracker URL (not the Target URL) in the ad itself.

Congratulations! You just created your first AdTracker URL!

Your next step is to add this AdTracker URL to your first AutoResponder message that you created the other day.

  1. Go to the AutoResponder you created the other day and click the “Letters” Tab.
  2. Select the first letter in your AutoResponder series.
  3. When your letter opens, place your mouse cursor where you want the AdTracker URL to appear in your message.
  4. On the left of your screen, click “Show AdTracker Links”:
  5. In the window that pops up, click “Paste Link In WYSIWYG Body:The AdTrack URL will be automatically inserted in to the message body where ever you placed your mouse cursor.
  6. Replace any existing links in the message with this new AdTracker URL and you will be able to keep track of the number of times your subscribers clicked the links in this message.

I recommend creating a unique AdTracker URL for each of your AutoResponder messages.

Other ways to use AdTracker URL’s include:

  • Tracking clicks on your Discussion Forum Signature.
  • Tracking clicks on any Ezine ads.
  • Tracking clicks on any Banner ads.
  • Tracking clicks from articles you have written.
  • Tracking clicks within your web sites.
  • Tracking clicks anywhere you have a link to your web sites.

By using AdTrackers for all of your advertising, you can know exactly where your results are coming from and identify which ads may not be producing results.

This allows you to spend your valuable resources where you can get the best return and stop wasting time and/or money on advertising that isn’t profitable.
